12. 14/07/2017: A moment of rest in Bratislava and the very sudden entrance to Hungary

Garmin Activity: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2247878179
25km, 1h13, 25hm

Today we visited Bratislava, Narmin, Roger and myself.

Bratislava was the first city we were actually visiting and if it weren't for Narmin insisting on meeting here, I probably would not have done it either.

However, the city definitely has its charm with the Bratislava castle, the Donau river and the old city cener

The weather was a bit grayish

The Donau...

In the old city center

Site seeing...

Narmin came here from Prague

Chinese restaurant

The white Bratislava castle. I never took the time to come up here

Beautifulview. Many Chinese tourists in the high days of the summer

No comment lol

After the city tour, we had a nice meal in a restaurant. Late in the afternoon, Narmin had to go back to Prague by train, so we walked back to the railway station

Some government building.

After Narmin left, Roger and I decided to continue cycling. We could still do a tiny stretch and camp somewhere next to the Donau. I did not want to spend a second night in the same city. That would feel like we weren't moving at all. At this time, the rest day kinda delayed the schedule.
On our way out of the city, we passed by the Specialized shop for some essential bike maintenance. I had my brakes adjusted, Roger got some accessories. We were good to go again

We exited the city and found a very big, wide cycling path next to the Donay. It was packed with tourists: kids, MTBs, roadbikes, roller bladers, a bit of everything.

I had no idea Bratislava and Slovakia had this kind of cycling infrastructure. Must be money from Brussels.

The relaxing evening atmosphere at this cycling path

Roger was closely looking on his map and he told me we would soon enter Hungary. Nonsense I said, we need at least two days to get to Hungary from here.

I was wrong. there is indeed a border to Hungary so close to Bratislava. We entered country 7 without mental preparation. Who knew the segment in Slovakia would be so short?

Out of the blue I met this crazy cyclist called Jean. He is from Belgium and he is going to cycle to Singapore. He rode across Scandinavia and down to central Europe again. Unfortunately he had slightly different plans so we could not ride together, but we would keep in touch!

Our formal entrance into Hungary!

We did 25km and evening was falling. It was time for a camp spot and to call it a day. We happened to find a perfect spot right at the border behind some old house with a fence. We locked our bikes to the fence and put our tents behind each other. This was all on the cycling path, it was a very quiet night. 12 days on the road and we are in Hungary...

Right at the border we found this PERFEECT spot for a camp. We could lock our bikes to the fence and not be seen by anyone
