14. 16/07/2017: Budapest, Apostag, Modjor Laposh!

138km, 6h40, 500hm

We woke up on the second Sunday of the trip. Today we would visit Budapest!

I did not sleep to well, the ground was uneven... Downsides of sleeping in a tent

Some elevation on the tiny Hungarian roads

Beautiful scenery in a country I never visited before

Budapest was some 50km from our starting place. Along the nr 1 highway

It was again very calm on the road. Hungary was still asleep

Road quality was like Czech Republic

Some two hours of pedaling brought us to Budapest, the city of Hungary, located next to the Donay

Roger and Bart in the Hungarian capital

We cycled through the center of the town and proceeded with care

This decathlon... Roger went in first and bought some cycling clothes. I bought an excellent portable pump and some gadgets like a pair of sunglasses. All of that stuff lasted all the way to Bishkek

We continued through the city. We needed a lunch and then to leave the center

At this spot next to the Donau, we found a restaurant where we had lunch. The view was lovely, it had WIFI and we charged our devices

Next task for the day was to head south, out of Budapest, along the Donau

Eurovelo 6 carried on. In the city center we needed to take many turns to get there

The cycling path became ridiculously narrow, totally conquered by vegetation.

All the places next to the Donau had Duna in their name.

The mighty Donau

At some point during the ride, Roger fell. Because of a nasty pothole in the road. He was in a lot of pain and I was worried he could not carry on. I tried to clean his wound and cover it up with a patch. He resisted the pain like a champion and continued.

The paths next to the river where gorgeous. It was a very beautiful day.

Some children's festival was going on

Dunavecse, another small town next to the Donau

Late in the evening we noticed that Roger's tent was gone. He would have to sleep in my tent tonight4

We met a Hungarian couple with a child on the bike and I asked them for a place to camp. I explained the story of today's ordeal, with Roger falling and him needing to sleep in my tent. He kindly invited us to go his house for camping.

He lived in a small town called Apostag. His wife was a nurse and she took care of Roger's wound

They took great care of us and they were super friendly. Best encounter in Hungary

We could put up the tents in their yard. That was a very safe feeling.

Their little daughter

Roger's wound slowly healed over the next few weeks.
