10. 12/07/2017: Wien an der Donau, the Austrian-Hungarian capital

90km, 4h46, 202hm

This was perhaps the best night in the tent so far. So comfortable and so quiet. I really liked this

And the view from outside was fabulous. It would be a wonderful day on the bike

We packed up as usual and hit the road. Today was not stressy at all with less than 100 km flat to Vienna. Hakuna Matata...

Connecting back to the Donau cycling paths

Yesterda's dazzling sun flowers in a different perspective

Roger and I marched on

We chatted a lot during the ride about politics, society, work etc. On these tranquil bike paths we had the occasion to speak.

Eurovelo 6. In between Vienna and our starting point, there was one town called Tulln. We wanted to go there because there was a bike shop.

The cycling paths might have been a bit dull if I were alone. Roger kept me company and we talked about so many things. He even had a phone call with his wife as we were cycling hehehhe

Some stupid pictures

And more

The Donau cycling route aka Eurovelo 6 is a big bike path that leads from West-France all the way to East-Romania to the Black Sea. It happened to be the case that a section of it coincided with our itinerary. We joined it from Regensburg and we would cycle it al the way to Bulgaria.

The blue Donau. Best to get used to this view for the next two weeks

Cycling isolated from traffic was still nice though.

On our way to Vienna

We approached the town of Tulln an der Donau

In the town center we found a bike shop and a tiny restaurant where we had a meal

I had a mirror installed and some basic bike check up. Roger bought a pair of cycling shorts and some other gadgets. We also took some essential change parts with us just in case... We met two German bike packers who came from Serbia. They were shocked to hear where we were heading. |They advised us to buy some bike stuff here as they would not have this available in Eastern Europe

After that break and bike maintenance session, we continued our way along the Donau to Vienna

A lot of cycling infrastructure

We had to cross the bridge a few times

As we approached Vienna, there were more and more cyclists. We were drawing close to a capital

The weather was also deteriorating a little. Good thing Roger booked us a room in Vienna.

Inside of the city

Cycling through the city was quite stressy, drivers were impatient and there was a lot of traffic. We were cautious and careful

Vienna is full of old historic buildings. Too bad this trip wasn't about history and architecture. We just tried to absorb as much as we could like this

The 7 km through the city center took us more than an hour. Not fun on a heavy bike like this

Roger can now officially tick off Vienna from his bucket list

So can I by the way

We arrived at the hotel, parked the bikes, took a shower and took care of the rest. In the evening we went outside for a nice meal and a long task. Today only 90km but we were already in Vienna after 10 days of cycling. Completely according to plan!
