32. 03/08/2017: Zonguldak, where we had enough of the Black Sea

121 km, 6h24, 1426hm

Day 32, August 3rd, 119 km to the town of Zonguldak. We should be able to do that today...

We woke up next to the Black Sea which was still noisy with its waves

Packing up our tents and preparing the bikes for departure

Today we would go over 3500 km. The mileage was starting to add up.

From the sandy beach road we connected back to the paved roads. Kocaali and Akcakoca where our knots on the map today

The first section of the ride was fairly flat

But we knew the climbing would never be far away..

The scenery was superb

We were following the D010.

The first town on the map, in front of the vast sea

A flat section along the Black Sea, sounded surreal

The wide shoulder was very welcome. We saw too many close encounters in the narrow mountain roads

This section reminded me of Taiwan, especially this first tunnel

It felt like Nantou

The city of Akcakoca

Zonguldak was already indicated on the map. Ankara, the capital, was no place for cyclists like us

Then there was a long climb. From sea level, we climbed in one go to nearly 500 meters

It was a long, steep climb and it was hot. I waited on the top for Roger.

We found a little shop where we could buy drinks. We needed hydration

Elevation 474m.

Feeling weary after a long climb

After that peak it went up and down several times, but more up than down

Eventually, we descended all the way back to Sea Level again.

This area reminded me a lot of Taiwan's Suhua road.

Another beautiful evening, we were near the city of Zonguldak, where we would find a hotel for the night

Black Sea sunet

We entered the city of Zonguldak, which was like a wasp-nest. Horrifying traffic

We had dinner in a small restaurant and then we searched for a hotel. There was one only 200 meters from us, for 180 TL

The meal was very delicious

Roger also enjoyed his delicacies
