Today's mission was to cycle from Belgrade to the border with Romania. The border town was called Bela Crkva and we would camp or get a hostel there
Before leaving the city, we went to a department store to get a new tent for Roger.
He also got me a new sleeping bag. Mine was leaking air all the time
The exit out of Belgrade was not only very hilly, but also scorching hot. 39 degrees!!!
We climbed to the top of a hill with a lovely view over the city.
Belgrade, the city that was bombed by the NATO in 1999, less than 20 years ago. Now the country is making efforts to join the European Union.
Actually Belgrade is located in between seven hills, and we had more work ahead of us
Very warm today, so drink enough and take it easy
We made it out of the capital. The road would continue along the Donau all the way
19 km out of Belgrade, we were heading for the city Smederevo. Serbian flags in the background
It was so warm, we decided to chill here for a while, stock up on drinks and have a meal
We sat on that terrace for more than two hours, just hiding from the heat. We had long chats and we relaxed. The feeling of not having to rush and not being under stress was great! And we still got where we needed to get each day.
The Danube was following us everywhere...
Leaving the town of Smederovo after our long break. Time for the last 60 km to Bela Crkva
It was after 5 when we started pedaling again, with 60 km of flat roads left, we would arrive around 9 which was fine
The cycling paths were all made out of sand and rocks so we stayed on the normal roads. I could not ask Roger to do that.
Bela Crkva already indicated on the signs, we were getting there!
Bart and Roger, cycling in Serbia, it was great to not be alone. And Roger felt the same way.
The long flat open sections in the Serbian hinterland
As it got later, after 18:00, the temperature got more bearable. 30 instead of 36 is a big difference.
Thanks for wishing us a nice trip! It has gone well indeed!
The evening arrived and this was the most comfortable section of the day. I calculated that we would do more than 100 km today. Good stuff
We passed through a nature park called Delivatska
The magic of this moment was amazing. Two cyclists together in a country they never visited, late in the evening, on a trip of more than 2000km, not knowing where they would spend the night. Engaging adventure and awaiting the turns of destiny.
. .
As we approached the town of Bela Ckrva, a beautiful sunset accompanied us.
We entered the town and we checked to see if there was a little hotel. If not, we needed to find a camp spot now.
We found a little hotel right next to this road. They had not expected to see any tourists now, but they had rooms. So we stayed here. Wasn't too expensive.
Late in the evening we walked into the town for a meal. We only found a little stand that served so me food. It was so comfortable to sit outside in that evening temperature after a full day of pedaling. 18 days and counting!
