The Eurovelo 6 Route continues in Hungary...
We woke up, packed our stuff and continued the route towards Budapest.
Rajka was the first town after the border
I went to a border shop where they accepted euro but returned in Hungarian florint
We noticed that Hungary is flat... Very welcome after a hilly first ten days
Not all roads were paved... That was a big disappointment
Gyor was the first major city on the map. It would be our halfway point for today
These roads were impossible to navigate on and even worse for Roger. We needed to find different solutions.
Speeds were very low and the thought of continuing like this for 37 km was a torture
For me this was bearable but not for Roger. We had to ditch the Eurovelo route and find a normal paved connection
Even riding on the grass was better than this loose sand and rocks
The town of Puski was our salvation from sandy roads
A cute little bike path
Today was one long introduction to Hungary. We chatted a lot and enjoyed the scenery
We arrived in Gyor. Perfect place for a lunch and for getting some Hungarian florint
Another bridge over the Donau
We met a Belgian couple on this bridge that cycled from Bratislava to Budapest. When they heard about my plans, they were amazed. The woman was sure I would make it!
Quite some Belgians biking in Europe apparenlty
The city center of Gyor
In the afternoon, the weather got a little better.
Heading East for Budapest
No bike paths on these main connection roads in Hungary. This required caution from our side
Tatabanya was the goal for today.
Funny name for a town. Hungarian is one of Europe's minority languages that does not derive from Latin
Tatabanya city. We had a meal in a restaurant with outside terrace. After that, we continued looking for a camp spot
We ended up cycling over 150 km because we did not find a descent spot so fast
We entered a small field road with sun flowers. We followed it for almost a mile before we found a nice corner with space for two tents. I did not sleep very well that night as the ground was not very even. We did 152 km, that is a massive amount of distance
