31. 02/08/2017: Karasu, the town called Black Water, conveniently next to the Black Sea

105km, 5h54, 1223hm

Yasmin Motel greeted us for the 31st day of the trip. We had breakfast here and got moving.

The day started at sea level and then the climb began

We climbed to 250 meters in 10 km. Nothing too steep.

Roger was feeling rejuvenated after yesterday's harsh test

It was already a lot more doable than yesterday;s crazily sleep slopes

Picturesque panoramas

I stopped for this picture during the descent part. After all, I had to wait for my buddy Roger. Always making sure he wasn't behind with issues.

We descended all the way back to Sea Level, to the town of Kandira

There, we went back uphill.

Some basic Turkish we learnt along the way: Nufus is population and Hiz Siniri Bolgesi means Allowed Speed, or something similar.

Speaking of learning Turkish, I was constantly trying to learn a few words and after almost a week in the country, I learned quite a lot

Sun flowers, just like the ones in Hungary, Austria and Bulgaria. Only these were on Asian soil.

We had been following the D020 all the way until this very point, but now we had to change to the D14. Just a number, but the feeling changed. We had followed D20 all the way since Bulgaria.

Karasu in 22 km. That is where we would camp that night. Later, I learned that Kara Su means Black Water in Turkish. How convenient for a town on the Black Sea Coast<

Turkey is building a lot of new roads. Infrastructure is bound to be good in a few years.

In the meanwhile, we had to suffer on some steeper slopes. But peanuts compared to yesterday...

The white stuff on my face is sun cream. These days were very sunny and hot and this protection was nothing out of the ordinary.

The long hilly struggle finally flattened out and we connected to the Black Sea coast again. We followed that straight road until the town of Karasu.

In Karasu we had dinner in a nice restaurant with great view over the Black Sea. After the meal, we started looking for a camp spot. The whole area was very touristic and we had some difficulties finding one. We ended up cycling until near darkness.

The view from the Black Sea restaurant

Kebap or something similar is what we had for dinner. With tomato and bread of course

But we found a place! And it was very deserted and safe. We camped right at the sea side and the sound of the waves and the wind was very soothing. Because of the above-mentioned reasons, it was one of the coolest camp spots in Turkey. Amazing Black Sea summer scenery!

31 days and we arrived in Karasu, Turkey.
