Another beautiful morning! We had breakfast and got ready to leave Serbia
It was a splendid day... Ready for Romania...
Granica, the border
Actually before my trip I planned to cycle further down in Serbia to the town of Nis and then cross the border into Bulgaria. This alternative was longer along the Donau and meant one extra country int his trip.
Roger riding and ready for Romania
The road between Bela Ckrva and the border, with a small slope
We felt it from the early morning, it would be hot. We protected ourselves with sun cream and made sure we drank enough
Bye Bye Serbia! You have been kind! Now it's time to enter the European Union again.
Dovidenia Sirbja
Welcome to the European Union, Romania. I have never been to Romania before. It also meant a different timezone, this area is one hour later than Western Europe. First time I cycled into another time zone... Romania is country 10 of the trip
The female border guard was very friendly and gave us some advice for cycling directions. We had to take a right here.
The first miles in Romani were a long and steep mountain pass. Luckily it went downhill as well and we arrived in this place
Radima, the first Romanian town we came across. Reminds me of a place in Czechia called Radim. Mind the Russian writing as well.
Welcome to Romania! It doesn't get any more Balkan than this
We saw the Donau in front of us again. From Germany to Romania along the Donau. What a crazy itinerary
It was already 40 degrees and it wasn't even the warmest point of the day. Scorching hot!!!
Orsova was the first big town where we could get Romanian Lei, the local currency
We got some money, did some shopping and then we carried on. It was truly a magnificent day
Beautiful day and super hot
Our section in Romania was only along the Donau until the Bulgarian border
Romanian Donau
These views were amazing. On the other side of the river was Serbia. Since Roger had a visa for Serbia and he exited already, he was not allowed to go back. So we needed to finish everything on Romanian side.
We stopped often for pictures. With good reason. This spot almost looked like Kending in Taiwan
In the direction of Orsova
This even looked like Taiwan's KOM route

As the sun started setting, we were looking for a place to stay. We did not really find a big place on the map. We wanted to find a camp spot somewhere in the greenery next to the road. But we did not find anything useful
Roger was enjoying the views as much as I was
Svinita was the last town on the map for a long time. Had we known beforehand, we would have bought at least some water and food here. We thought we'd see some other small town before the end of the day but that never happened. We just kept going and we were even running out of water
We even asked a local couple for some water and luckily they had a bottle spare
In a moment of despair we found a little restaurant. We asked the owner if we could sleep in our tents there and he agreed for a small price. So we had dinner there, got enough of water and then slept in the tent. That was our first night in Romania
