After months of preparations, today was the day. Roger and I hit the road at 08.30 and our long mission has begun
Leaving my hometown of Lummen
Albertkanaal
We cycled along the Albertkanaal to Hasselt, Genk and eventually Maastricht in the Netherlands
Taiwanese flag
Sunny day in the middle of the summer
The last Belgian villages
This section was flat.
The border of Belgiu; and the Netherlands, after only 50 km of cycling
Already into the second country of the trip!
The Maas river which grants Maastricht its name
Maastricht city center
The province of South Limburg in the Netherlands has a few hills.
I cycled through these roads when I traveled from Prague to Belgium
My travel buddy Roger Liu
And my new bicycle. the Specialized Sequoia
Approaching the three nations dot that links Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany
Interesting place
And that brings us to the third country of the trip. Germany. We will need about a week to finish this one
In the city of Aachen
Views of West Germany
Until here, I know all the roads...
Late in the afternoon, we were already over 100 km. Time to start thinking on where we would camp
Kreuzau seemed like a good place to halt
There is something mysterious about cycling in rural Germany
A beautiful first day of the ride
Kreuzau
127 km for today. We had a dinner here and we camped in a nearby forest. The first night of camping was a bit nervous but it all went well. The nomadic days have truly begun
Camping in this forest was the start of many nights in the tent
